Embarking on an educational adventure

Come along with me on a friendly stroll through my educational journey - it’s been quite the adventure!

I am much more than the sum of my past experiences. I believe that I have a choice to integrate past experiences, allowing for a meaningful life in the here and now.

When I am successful in the practice of this philosophy, I experience a sense of well-being, through the connectedness with others and nature. When I am less successful, I become frustrated, annoyed, sad and choose to distance myself from others. Until I realise…

“Everything can be taken from a man but…the last of human freedoms – to choose ones attitude in any given set of circumstances.”

Our journey begins at the University of Limpopo (Medunsa Campus), where I earned my MSc in Clinical Psychology in 2014. But before that milestone, I laid the groundwork with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UNISA, followed by an Honours degree in the same field.

Let’s rewind a bit to 2002 when I embarked on a journey at UNISA, exploring Health Sciences and Social Services. Little did I know, life had unexpected twists in store. I transitioned from a fulfilling 17-year career in the South African Police Service to a new role as Project Manager. Talk about a change of scenery!

Through years of dedication, I completed internships, gained valuable experience at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, and became a Registered Counsellor. The pinnacle came with earning my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, followed by internships and community service at the South African Military Health Services. These experiences instilled in me the confidence to venture into private practice.

Crafting a
Therapeutic Approach

Now, let’s dive into my approach to therapy.

Embracing Connection

In my world, every interaction is an opportunity to create something beautiful.

I see myself as an artist shaping my present and future through empathy and acceptance. By letting go of outdated beliefs and embracing authenticity, I deepen my connections with others and the world around me. Sure, there are moments when difficult thoughts and emotions are present because of activating events. I choose to use those as reminders to reconnect and realign with my core values. Through reaching out to all the special people in my life, I gain perspective. I challenge old self-defeating beliefs that I unknowingly reinforced over many years, and relax deeply through the use of hypnosis to enhance my health. One can say I take my own medicine!

The heart of
my practice

In 2014, I took the leap and opened my own practice in Pretoria. Through word of mouth and heartfelt referrals, my practice flourished. But life is full of surprises, and in 2021, my wife and I embarked on a new adventure, settling in the serene Waterberg District. We now split our time between Pretoria and Bela-Bela, savoring the joys of rural living. It’s a dream come true, and we’re excited for the endless possibilities that lie ahead. Being in nature over weekends brings healing from lifes demands so that I am able to be available for others.

And there you have it—a glimpse into my journey, brimming with growth, challenges, and boundless opportunities. Thank you for joining me on this warm and friendly ride!
